A 14-year-old, a 13-year-old, and two 12-year-old boys were given several charges, the Galloway Township Police Department said in a news release on Monday, Aug. 12.
Absecon police received a report of several people trying to break into vehicles in the city at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11. The suspects were reportedly driving a Dodge Journey towards Galloway Township.
Galloway police found the Dodge and stopped it near the intersection of Route 30 and Eighth Avenue. The Dodge then sped away as officers approached the SUV.
Police eventually found the Dodge on the 300 block of Arbutus Avenue. The SUV was reported stolen and all of the suspects had left the scene.
Absecon and Galloway police used surveillance video and a K9 officer to find all four boys after searching for several hours.
"This was very impressive work from both the Galloway Township and Absecon city police departments," Galloway police Chief Richard Barber said in a statement. "This coordination and teamwork between our departments is another example of how collaboration with other law enforcement agencies can lead to positive results."
The four boys were released to their guardians to await future court appearances.
